What is Telling Tales?

Telling Tales, presented by George The Bookworm is a touring festival celebrating, stories, imagination, performance and creativity.

After the audience helps George to arrive through one of his wormholes, the fun unfolds with interactive storytelling, book-making workshops, magic, music, juggling, and mayhem.

Telling Tales introduces children to the enduring power of stories in all their forms and a reminder that our imaginations are often our greatest gift to one other.

Where Did Telling Tales Go?

Telling Tales visited children and their families across six Essex libraries:

Frinton 📚 Walton 📚 Clacton 📚 Harwich 📚 Manningtree 📚 Brightlingsea

Who Was Telling The Tales?

Donimo

The loveable silent clown and magician Donimo, fumbled his way through magic tricks, knife juggling, and a waltz with his imaginary dance partner. He also got a little help to walk his invisible dog!

Fantastic performers, Los Kaos introduced audiences to Bjorn The Polar Bear, and together they illustrated an enchanting story of survival and life in the Arctic. A beautiful animal who didn’t mind a tickle or two behind the ears.

Los Kaos & Bjorn The Polar Bear

Alim Kamara

Renowned storyteller Alim Kamara enlisted the help of audiences to tell a funny story about Anansi, the spider trickster. He also filled libraries with the hypnotic sounds of drums and a traditional African thumb piano.

George The Bookworm & Mandy The Librarian

George The Bookworm, fresh from some other mishap on the other side of the universe, exploded his way out of a cardboard box. And along with Mandy The Librarian, they became the hapless hosts of Telling Tales. Apparently, they even got everyone’s names right a few times!

It was fast paced and hilarious. Our three children had the most brilliant time! So much imagination had gone into creating the event.
